» CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character NAME: Dlanor A. Knox
Canon & MEDIUM: Umineko no Naku Koro Ni; visual novel
Canon PULL-POINT: Episode 8, before Dlanor's arrival to Battler's party.
Character AGE: Unclear. Her growth's ceased since her father's death. She still insists that she's a kid, though.
Character ABILITIES: As an Inquisitor of Heresy of the Great Courts of Heaven, Dlanor possesses several powers that are used on the meta plane. It's unlikely that Dlanor can access them in Exsilium, as they require meta knowledge of the setting.

-The Red Key
Red truths are one of the rules in the games. They are facts that require no proof to be true. (I.E. Professor Plum went to Greece.) Humans cannot use it--only beings such as witches may declare a red truth. Being an angel, however, Dlanor is able to use any witch-approved red truths in the form of a longsword called the Red Key. Any rule from Knox's Decalogue may also be used as a red truth.

-The Blue Key
Blue truths are another rule. They are counterarguments to red truths, theories constructed off evidence given by the story or previously stated red truths. (I.E. Because we found a letter from General Mustard in Professor Plum's drawer, we can assume that Professor Plum went to Greece to meet General Mustard.) Both humans and witches may use blue truths--as such, Dlanor can draw the Blue Key more liberally than the Red Key. However, blue truths are much weaker than red truths.

-Extreme Pain Tolerance + Excellent Fighting Skills
Dlanor has been shown to be able to take massive amounts of pain, having been stabbed multiple times without even so much a flinch. Though she can still feel it, not many attacks faze her. In addition, Dlanor is a veteran witch hunter, which makes her a fearsome foe in combat.

Character HISTORY: Though Dlanor doesn't appear until Episode 5, it's clear that she has quite a reputation. Even the great witch Beatrice was nervous at her presence, and Beatrice's mentor, Virgilia, is an old friend of hers. Little is known about her upbringing or her other accomplishments, but it's certain that she and her group, the Eiserne Jungfrau, are respectable and renown throughout the meta world.

Her father, Ronald A. Knox, created the Decalogue in his own name. They were rules that dictated what mysteries can and cannot do, such as who could be the culprit and what plot devices could be used. Dlanor would enforce her father's creation at the dictation of the Great Courts of Heaven, using them to weed out witches and demons that tried to spread darkness over the truth. In the end, though, Mr. Knox turned away from his own commandments. The Courts assigned Dlanor to his interrogation and execution, which she carried out. The emotional strain, however, was massive on her. From then on, she physically stopped aging and growing.

Since then, she's gained the nicknames of "Death Sentence Dlanor" and "Dlanor of the Ten Wedges" for her fearsome and brutal witch hunts, her reputation as a chillingly competent and remorseless witch hunter spreading across many lands.

In Episode 5: End of the Golden Witch, Dlanor is summoned as furniture for the detective Erika Furudo in order to aid her and her master, the witch Bernkastel, in defeating Beatrice's game. This arrangement was not to her liking. In fact, Dlanor visits Battler and Beatrice after their first clash, confiding to them that she suspected Bernkastel of plotting something foul. Though she emphasizes that she is neutral at heart, her duty as furniture to Erika compelled her to fulfill her role to the best of her abilities. Throughout the episode Dlanor attempts to provide clues the best she could to Battler and the others, wanting a fair match with nothing held back between them.

Battler fails in the end, defeated by Erika. Battler and Beatrice dies after a vicious trial, with Dlanor presiding over their executions. She expresses her disappointment in Battler before leaving him where he is.

However, Battler revives when he realizes the 'truth' of Beatrice's game. Dlanor and Battler engage in a rematch which ends in a splendid victory for the latter. Honored by the chance to fight him, she thanks him.

Dlanor's part in the games is not over yet, however. Episode 6: Dawn of the Golden Witch begins as Erika is forced by Bernkastel to fight the newly revived Battler, threatened with the erasure of her existence if she were to fail. Having promised Erika her support at the end of Episode 5, Dlanor once again assists her as her furniture. It's during this time that her friendship with Erika grows. Though she described her as a 'very evil being' to Battler during their meeting, the two slowly become closer as Dlanor learns of her past. By the end of the episode, Dlanor and Erika promise to each other to solve mysteries together on the island once they win.

That promise is broken. In a final move to conquer the game board, Bernkastel has Erika marry Battler. During the reception, a revived Beatrice manages to break in and, through a miracle, defeats Erika, denying her existence. In the end, Dlanor is forced to watch her friend's death and later the only one to call for someone to help her.

Dlanor doesn't appear again until Episode 8: Twilight of the Golden Witch with the Eiserne Jungfrau. She comes to Battler's party, thanking him for the invitation and expressing regret that she couldn't find Erika to give her her invitation.

It's before this point that Dlanor will be arriving at Exsilium.

Character PERSONALITY: "You have no heart that can be hurt! You're just a witch hunting killer doll!"

On the surface, Dlanor appears to be a callous, cruel, and heartless witch hunter. Rarely does anyone see an expression cross her face unless it's vicious glee in the middle of battle, and her infamous executions give her the image of someone focused only on crushing all those in her way. 'Murder doll' is a nickname she's frequently referred to and something that she's grown to accept. With her position as the Inquisitor of Heresy, such a label is to be expected.

To say that hunting and killing is all Dlanor's capable of is far from the truth. During her meeting with Battler, it's revealed that she's on good terms with Virgilia, despite her being a witch. Although she hunts witches, she expressly states that she pities them, though that pity must be locked away when carrying out her orders. Magic is not something she's against, nor something she wants torn apart. Rather, her aim is to fight against evil itself, and that includes malicious magic used in obscuring the truth for vile purposes. Magic that embellishes the truth to make others happy, such as Santa Claus, is to be left alone. This idealism of hers conflicts with her job at times--as seen when she's assigned as Erika's furniture--but she ultimately underplays her ideals in order to complete her duty as Inquisitor. Her position is important to her, as it upholds the last remains of her father: Knox's Decalogue. Because of this, duty always came first before her heart.

Even so, Dlanor is honorable. Though her orders may be twisted, she does her best to hold true to her values. Honesty is important to her, as is a fair playing field. She respects her enemies and, to the best of her abilities and her position, she frequently gives chances and hints to those she's impressed by. Although she'll strive to fulfill her duty, she isn't against visiting the opposing side to hear them out. She can be surprisingly emphatic of others and always gives off a polite demeanor.

The image of a 'murder doll' is completely untrue and, at times, is shown to hurt Dlanor. There still is some emotional trauma from her father's death, evidenced by her inability to age. It's revealed that she feels shamed by those who chose to ruthlessly follow her father's Decalogue, as that was what caused his death. Moreover, as she has a ruthless job to uphold, Dlanor has a tendency to lock away her heart to provide witches a more 'merciful death,' as she views her pity as only an impediment to justice.

Mystery still plays an important part in her life. It's with glee that she chooses to abandon her paperwork (which she abhors) and to throw herself into games to challenge the logic of others. Action is far more important and interesting to Dlanor than learning about them. And while she does have the wisdom and attitude of someone who looks far older than her, Dlanor still refers to herself as a kid, going so far as to refuse smoking and drinking and asking for things such as juice.

Altogether, she's a loyal, honest, and skilled fighter, and it's not hard to see why Dlanor makes an excellent ally.

» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Her blue longsword, the Blue Key, would be her choice. Her red longsword won't work as well here since it requires red truths. It may be dissipated and summoned at any time. As the weapon evolves, so will its size and strength, as well as boosts to Dlanor's endurance and speed.

Character INVENTORY: Aside from her clothes and an invitation to a party, Dlanor won't be carrying anything on her person. (I mean look at her outfit she won't be carrying around anything with that.)

» SAMPLES
First PERSON: [A soft voice speaks. It sounds like it belongs to that of a young girl, but all emotion seems to be drained from it. The language used, though, definitely points to someone older.]

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Dlanor A. Knox, Chief Inquisitor of Hersey of the Eiserne Jungfrau. It's a pleasure to meet all of you, despite our circumstances. I look forward to working with you all in the future.

I have been informed that there is an organized police force run by Transports. I apologize for the broad message, but I'm unsure who I should contact if I wish to join.

[Brief pause.]

On another note... if someone knows of a place where I could find mysteries, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

Third PERSON: Here!

» ADDITIONAL NOTES
I understand that most people play Dlanor's speech quirk based off Witch Hunt's English translation (I.E. Yadda something EXECUTION.) However, I want to give the same impression her voice actor does, so I won't be doing that.
